The Court of Appeal set aside orders made by the National Industrial Relations Court committing three dockers, Mr Bernard Steer and Mr Vic Turner, chairman and secretary of the London Docks Joint Shop Stewards Committee, and Mr Alan Williams, to prison for contempt of court. The Industrial Court had found that the three had disobeyed an order it made restraining them from seeking to prevent lorries from entering or leaving the container depot of London (East) ICD Ltd at Chobham Farm, Leyton Road, Stratford. Mr Alan Williams Said: "We told the bloke from the union that we did not want anyone to appeal for us, but someone just did it anyway and ignored us. If they had let us be arrested there would have been a general strike."
