Winnington, Richard (1903 - 1953)
Richard Winnington was a self taught artist & film critic who wrote for the News Chronicle film column (1943-1953), illustrated with his caricatures. He shared an office with Vicky, and had a decisive effect upon Vicky's style, who shed the influence of David Low and began to use a pen line both more brittle and more biting. Most of his original caricatures were destroyed when the News Chrnice merged with the Daily Mail. His collected works and drawings were published in a book (1948): ‘Drawn and Quartered’, with an introduction by David Lean.
