Lumsdon, Les (1912 - 1977)
Les Lumsdon original cartoon artwork.
Les Lumsdon was born at Abermain in New South Wales. During the Second World War, Lumsdon worked in a Newcastle camouflage unit before serving for two years in wartime New Guinea. After the war, he became the cartoonist for the Newcastle Herald in 1946 and was there until 1977. He died the same year shortly into his retirement. Lumsdon built up a huge public following and eventually put out five volumes of cartoons, complete with his daily trademarks of a skinny black cat called Casper and an apple core.
