Fearing was an illustrator and cartoonist for the St Paul Dispatch and St Paul Pioneer Press for for nearly 40 years. He wrote several books about life in his native Minnesota, illustrated with his own art. The drawing shown here resembles the cover art on his book Christmas on West Seventh Street, a collection of his stories remembering Christmas in St Paul circa 1940.
