Harsh published his first cartoon in the New York Star Gazette in 1931. He later worked for newspapers and trade journals in New York, California and Illinois before joining The Scranton Times as artist and editorial cartoonist in 1958. Lew documented the space race and the Vietnam war, and also sketched portraits of local sports heroes and other personalities. His cartoons were included in presidential libraries and published in volumes of the "best editorial cartoons of the year.
