Scott, Ian (1914 - 2010)

Ian Scott was educated at St. Martin's School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He began working as an art teacher before serving in the Royal Engineers in North Africa and the Middle East. He became political cartoonist for the Daily Sketch in 1955 until he was replaced by Keith Waite in the spring of 1957. Scott then set up Kingleo Studios, which he ran with his wife, Tanya, representing more than 100 artists, amongst them Hector Breeze, Leslie Harding (Styx), Chic Jacob (Chic), Roy Nixon, Terence Parkes (Larry) and Bill Tidy. Scott was the founder, in 1960, and first chairman (1960-69) of the Cartoonists' Club and founder of the Cartoonist of the Year Awards in 1962.
