William S. Sandeson began his career as an editorial cartoonist for the The New Orleans Item-Tribune in 1937. In 1941, Sandeson moved to the St. Louis Star-Times as a cartoonist, art director, and picture editor, becoming part of that city's rich editorial cartooning tradition. Sandeson moved to northern Indiana and began his run at The News Sentinel in 1951, a position he held until his retirement in 1987.
