Powys Evans 'Quiz' was a very popular illustrator and caricaturist in the 1920s. He was born in London and studied at the Slade School of Art. His work appeared in Tatler and the London Mercury and two collections of his portraits and caricatures – Eighty Eight Cartoons and Fifty Heads were published in 1926 and 1928 in the Saturday Review. One of Powys Evans most famous cartoons is of Max Beerbohm who admired his style and announced him as his ‘heir’ in 1924.
